The bank called on its staff, along with all customers, nationals, and residents to exercise on a regular basis while complying with the requirements and guidelines related to sports activities and events approved for the National Sports Day in relation to Covid-19 pandemic.
The Bank has urged everyone, through internal emails to its staff, and messages to its customers, and on its social media pages, to practice sports as a lifestyle, as it has positive impact on the individual and the community as a whole.

On the occasion of the National Sports Day, QIIB Chief Executive Officer, Dr Abdulbasit Ahmed al-Shaibei said, “The National Sports Day is a unique world event. There is no country in the world that celebrates sports in this civilised manner that expresses respect for life’s positive values and encourages active involvement in various activities. It also promotes interaction and cooperation among different segments in the society and across cultures and countries as well.
He noted, “Celebrating the National Sports Day this year has a special flavour, as our dear country will host one the most important global sports event, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which we trust, God willing, will be an exceptional success for the State of Qatar that has become one of the premier sports capitals in the world.”
“Practicing sports adhering to the precautionary measures related to Covid-19 pandemic is particularly challenging. Yet, the obstacles and difficulties cannot stand in the way of sports as is the determination and will to combat the pandemic and return to our normal lives”.
Dr. Al Shaibei stressed, “The surrounding conditions are all set for everyone to practice sports, as gyms, parks, and tracks and trails designated for walking, running, and cycling are available in various regions of the State. In addition, the sports facilities in the State of Qatar are considered among the best in the world and have become a benchmark for all athletes and sport enthusiasts around the
world.”
He added, “Given the social significance of sports and the great benefits resulting thereof, and its potential, supporting sports has become a key and permanent item on QIIB’s agenda. At QIIB, we allocate 2.5% of our annual profits to support the Social and Sport Contribution Fund. We are pleased to be part of this initiative as we contribute together with various QE-listed companies in serving our community”.
