Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) index gained 323.65 points, or 2.5 percent, to cross the psychological 13,000 mark to close trading at 13,272.40 points on Tuesday.
The volume of shares traded decreased to 441.511 million from 502.259 million on Monday and the value of shares decreased to QR 1.551 billion from QR1.717 billion on Monday.
The day saw banking shares outperform shares from other sectors. The banking sector index, which witnessed an impressive jump of 4.71 percent on the back of solid gains in its main components QNB, QIB and Commercials Bank, was the best performing sector index for the day.
The industrial sector, the telecom sector and the transport sector also gained to lift the main index higher.
The QSE Total Return Index gained 2.26 percent 26,584.02 points, while the QSE Al Rayan Islamic index increased 1.56 percent to 5,364.16 points. The QSE All Share Index added 2.92 percent 4,211.95 points.
