QC seeks strong commercial ties with Mozambican private sector

Qatar Chamber First Vice-Chairman Mohamed bin Twar Al Kuwari met with the Minister of Industry and Commerce of Mozambique, Carlos Mesquita, at the Chamber’s headquarters in Doha on Tuesday.
They reviewed ways to enhance economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries and investment opportunities available in Mozambique.
During the meeting, the Mozambican minister reviewed the investment climate in his country and opportunities available in many areas such as services, tourism, energy, transportation, industry, infrastructure food processing and agriculture.
Mesquita also touched on the legislative framework for investment and business opportunities in Mozambique including taxation system, incentives, and exemption.
He said Mozambique is safe and secure for investment and offers a lot of incentives that attract foreign investments, noting that there is a slew of laws that are related to investment and are being revised for more improvement to the investment climate of the country.
The minister called on Qatari investors and businessmen to visit his country to get acquainted with the opportunities available there, pointing out that Mozambique enjoys a distinguished position and offers an access to many preferential markets.
On his part, Mohamed bin Twar said the Qatari private sector is keen to learn more about the investment opportunities available in Mozambique, stressing that the Chamber would promote these opportunities before Qatari businessmen.
He also noted that Qatar and Mozambique enjoy strong and close relations, indicating that the mutual visits between senior officials are the best testimony to this.
Despite these distinct relations, the two countries’ trade volume reached last year about QR71 million, which does not match the aspirations of the two friendly nations, he added.
He also expressed hope that enhancing cooperation between Qatari and Mozambican businessmen and forging mutual investments would help increase the trade exchange between both countries, especially in light of the enormous potential and opportunities available in both sides.
Twar assured the Qatar Chamber’s interest in promoting cooperation between the Qatari private sector and its Mozambican counterpart, stressing that the Chamber encourages Qatari businessmen and investor to explore opportunities available for investment in Mozambique, which is rife with a plenty of opportunities in many sectors such as mining, infrastructure, industry, and others.
These sectors are very attractive for Qatari investors who are eager to invest in Africa in general in line with the economic diversification strategy adopted by Qatar National Vision 2030, he said.
