Qatar’s trade surplus rises 170.6% to QR24.5 bn in Nov

Qatar’s foreign merchandise trade balance that represents the difference between total exports and imports showed a surplus of almost QR24.5 billion in November 2021, an increase of about QR15.5 billion or 170.6 percent compared to November 2020 and an increase of nearly QR3.3 billion or 15.8 percent compared to October 2021.
A statement issued by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) on foreign merchandise statistics of November 2021 stated that the total exports of goods including exports of goods of domestic origin and re-exports from Qatar amounted to around QR34.3 billion in November 2021, showing an increase of 106.6 percent compared to November 2020, and an increase of 13.9 percent compared to October 2021.
The imports of goods in November 2021 amounted to around QR9.8 billion, showing an increase of 29.6 percent compared to November 2020 and an increase of 9.6 percent compared to October 2021.
The year on year increase in total exports was mainly due to higher exports of petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons (LNG, condensates, propane, butane, etc.) reaching QR 22.4 billion (approximately) in November 2021, an increase of 135.1 percent, petroleum oils & oils from bituminous minerals (crude) reaching nearly QR4.1 billion, an increase of 62.4 percent, and increase in the petroleum oils and oils from bituminous minerals (not crude) reaching 2.9 billion, an increase of 107.8 percent.
In November 2021, China was at the top of the countries of destination of Qatar’s exports with close to QR5.1 billion, a share of 14.8 percent of total exports, followed by Japan with almost QR 4.5 billion and a share of 13.1 percent, South Korea with about QR 3.6 billion, a share of 10.4 percent.
Year on year, the group of ‘Turbojets, Turbo propellers & Other Gas Turbines; Parts Thereof’ was at the top of the imported group of commodities, with QR 0.4 billion, showing a decrease of 1.9 percent. In second place was ‘Electrical Apparatus for Line Telephony/Telegraphy, Telephone Sets ; Parts Thereof’ with QR0.33 billion, an increase of 13 percent and in third place was ‘Motor Cars & Other Motor Vehicles for The Transport of Persons’ with QR 0.30 billion, decrease of 1.4 percent .
In November 2021, China was the leading country of origin of Qatar’s imports with about QR1.8 billion, a share of 18.8 percent of the total imports, followed by the United State of America with QR 1.1 billion almost, a share of 11.2 percent, and Germany with QR 0.7 billion, a share of 7.2 percent
