Qatar’s Sheikha Asma scales Antarctica’s highest peak

Qatari mountaineer Sheikha Asma Al Thani has scaled the highest peak in Antarctica, Vison Massif. “We’re starting 2022 with a huge first time achievement in women’s history in Qatar. Qatari Mountaineer Asma bint Thani Al Thani skied around 117km to reach the South Pole, and climbed Antarctica’s highest mountain – Vinson Massif, that stands 4,892km tall,” the Qatar Olympic Committee has said in a tweet. “2021, what an EPIC year! Hello from Vinson Massif, the highest point in Antarctica!” Sheikha Asma said in her Instagram page. “Our adventures in Antarctica didn’t stop at Vinson. We then skied the Last Degree to the South Pole. The Last Degree is the process of making the journey over the last latitude of distance to the South Pole from 89° South. (TNN)
