Qatar’s industrial production index edges up in Oct y-o-y

Qatar’s Industrial Production index (IPI) for October 2021 reached to 101.8 points remaining steady compared to the previous month (September 2021), while it increased by 0.7 percent, when compared to the corresponding month in 2020, data published by Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) on Sunday showed.
The Industrial Production Index consists of three main components: “Mining” with a relative importance of 83.6 percent, “Manufacturing” with a relative importance of 15.2 percent, “Electricity” with a relative importance of 0.7 percent, and finally “Water” with a relative importance of 0.5 percent.

Mining
The index of this sector showed a decrease by 0.1 percent compared to the previous month (September 2021), as a result of the decrease in the quantities of “crude oil petroleum and natural gas” by 0.1 percent, and “other mining and quarrying” showed a decrease by 0.3 percent. When compared to the corresponding month of the previous year (October 2020), the IPI of Mining decreased by 0.2 percent.
Manufacturing
The index of this sector showed an increase by 1.1 percent compared to the previous month (September 2021).
The groups showing an increase include: “manufacture of refined petroleum products” by 12.6 percent, and “manufacture of chemicals and chemical products” by 0.2 percent.
However, a decrease was recorded in ‘’printing and reproduction of recorded media’’ by 27.9 percent, “manufacture of basic metals” by 6.2 percent, “manufacture of rubber and plastics products” by 3.0 percent, “manufacture of beverages” by 2.5 percent, “manufacture of food products” by 2.0 percent, and “manufacture of cement and other non-metallic mineral products” by 1.4 percent.
On the other hand, in terms of annual change (October 2020), an increase of 5.5 percent was recorded, affected by the following groups: “manufacture of refined petroleum products” by 43.9 percent, followed by “manufacture of cement & other non-metallic mineral products” by 5.4 percent, “manufacture of beverages” by 1.7 percent, “manufacture of food products” by 1.3 percent.
However, a decrease was recorded in ‘’printing and reproduction of recorded media’’ by 9.1 percent, “manufacture of rubber and plastics products” by 3.3 percent, “manufacture of basic metals” by 0.6 percent, and “manufacture of chemicals and chemical products” by 0.1 percent.
Electricity
A decrease of 9.1 percent was noticed in the production of “electricity” between October 2021 and the previous month (September 2021). Comparing with corresponding month (October 2020), an increase of 10.3 percent was recorded.
Water
A decrease of 0.5 percent was noticed in the production of ‘‘Water’’ between October 2021 and the previous month (September 2021).
Comparing with corresponding month (October 2020), a decrease of 19.7 percent was recorded.
