A delegation from Qatar Chamber visited the 31st Doha International Book Fair being held at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center on Wednesday. With a slogan ‘Knowledge is Light,’ the book fair will continue until January 22.
The delegation was led by QC First Vice-Chairman Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Twar Al Kuwari and consisted of Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) Board Member for International Relations Sheikh Dr Thani bin Ali Al Thani and Director of Research and Studies Department Nora Al Awlan.
The delegates toured the pavilions, being accompanied by Director of the Doha International Book Fair, Jassim Albuenain. They were briefed on the participation of government agencies, various cultural institutions, Qatari, Arab and international publishing houses and the latest publications, books, artwork and manuscripts on display. They also listened to an explanation of the cultural events accompanying the exhibition.
The chamber’s team also visited several pavilions of the participating countries and reviewed a number of books and publications on display.
In a press statement, Kuwari congratulated the organisers of the fair on the great success it made in terms of the organization, the wide turnout and broad participation from visitors and publishers. In addition, he lauded the diversity of publishing houses, the number of institutions and ministries involved and the accompanying events and activities.
He said holding the fair amid the COVID-19 pandemic at this remarkable level and with great participation was an extraordinary achievement.
The fair covers all segments of society of different ages and languages, he noted, adding that the accompanying activities and events enhanced its success and increased the number of visitors.
The current edition presented some new things such as the special pavilion displaying children’s books and establishing special activities for them, he said
It is noteworthy that about 37 countries participated in the book fair, while the number of direct publishers reached 430 and the number of agencies reached 90.
