Qatar Arbitration law enhances business climate: Shahbeek

Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) at Qatar Chamber and the Qatar Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) co-organised on Tuesday a webinar titled ‘Arbitral Award Enforcement and Annulment and The Role of Experts in Procedures under Qatari Law and New York Convention’.
In his keynote speech, QICCA’s Assistant Secretary-General Ibrahim Shahbeek said Qatar issued the Arbitration Law to keep pace with the local and international developments, create a stimulating environment for business and investment, and cope with the current and future economic and investment growth of the state.
Shahbeek also noted that the webinar is part of the arbitration seminars held by QICCA with the aim to disseminate the arbitration culture and inform the business community, lawyers, and arbitrators on updates of the commercial arbitration, as well as review means of dispute settlement and best practices in this respect.
The webinar was moderated by Chairman of CIArb Qatar and Senior Projects Engineering Advisor of Public Works Authority Qatar Ahmad Al Ansari.
On her part, Dean of the College of Law at Qatar University Dr Muna Al Marzouqi reviewed the most important legal and practical steps to implement the arbitration award issued outside or inside Qatar and rules of the Qatar Financial Centre related to this matter.
Professor of Commercial and Maritime Laws College of Law at Qatar University Dr Nader M. Ibrahim and Saad Hegazy, CIArb Qatar Board Member – Expert Witness and Arbitrator addressed the webinar.
