Representatives from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) met with representatives from the de facto authorities in Afghanistan, in Doha on Monday. GCC representatives stressed the need to fulfill urgent humanitarian needs of the people of Afghanistan, contribute to mobilizing resources to provide humanitarian assistance, improve economic conditions, provide appropriate solutions for the challenges facing humanitarian work in Afghanistan, and secure humanitarian aid convoys to enable them to deliver aid to their intended recipients. GCC representatives reiterated their steadfast positions on Afghanistan — respect for its sovereignty, independence, unity, territorial integrity and non-interference in its internal affairs. They stressed the importance of national reconciliation and a consensus political solution that fulfils aspirations of the people of Afghanistan, takes into consideration the interests of all components of society and respects basic freedoms and rights.
