The Digital Incubation Center (DIC), affiliated with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, announced that 24 digital startups in the 5th edition of IdeaCamp won the opportunity to be incubated by DIC.
The winners were announced in a virtual ceremony held in the presence of the partner of the 5th Edition of IdeaCamp Draper University in the United States, in addition to a group of digital business incubator partners, where 40 startups competed before the jury.
During the ceremony, the graduation of the 9th batch of companies that completed their incubation period at the DIC was also celebrated, amounting to 18 companies.
Assistant Undersecretary of Digital Society Development at the ministry Reem Al Mansoori said in a speech on the occasion that emerging digital companies are a major driver of economic growth, and a gateway to creating multiple job opportunities, indicating that through these companies the State of Qatar can diversify its economy by providing effective innovative solutions to society and thus contributing to Qatar National Vision 2030.
She noted that this event represents another milestone that demonstrates Qatar’s commitment to developing the digital startup sector, in addition to driving the growth of the information and communications technology sector.
For her part, DIC Acting Manager Duha Al Buhendi said that the incubator continues its commitment to supporting digital entrepreneurs in the State of Qatar, noting that the 5th Edition of IdeaCamp was exceptional in terms of the quality of the participants’ projects, and its strategic partnership with Draper University, helped entrepreneurs develop their projects, allowing two companies to visit Silicon Valley.
The projects of the entrepreneurs participating in the fifth edition of the camp have diversified to serve the sectors of education, health care, and the environment using emerging technology techniques such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), advanced analytics, Internet of Things (IoT) and robotics.
The DIC aims to create a supportive environment for digital entrepreneurs in the State of Qatar. Since 2011, the incubator has witnessed success stories of more than 106 graduate startups.
Through the DICs partnerships with local and global digital industry leaders, the total investment in the incubated companies has exceeded QR235 million.
