Booster doses effective in preventing severe infection from Omicron: MoPH

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has announced that recent studies show booster doses to be highly effective in preventing severe infections from new Omicron variant of COVID-19.
The ministry said clinical evidence shows immunity from first vaccine series declines after six months.
“Studies showing up to 95 percent effectiveness against severe infection during the first six months, followed by a quick decline in immunity,” it said, adding that “Research supports MoPH’s policy of offering the booster dose to all individuals who received their second vaccine dose more than six months ago.
A number of senior health officials at the Ministry of Public Health stated that many local and international scientific studies showed clear evidence that the protective immunity against COVID-19 infection that most people acquire from the first two doses of the vaccine gradually decreases over time. The MoPH officials have urged the people to take the COVID-19 booster doses to remain safe from the virus.
