The Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI) is working seriously to defend human rights and freedoms, and promoting and protecting such rights is among the noblest goals of national human rights institutions.
This was stated by Sultan bin Hassan Al Jamali, the Qatar-based Executive Director of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions.
Speaking at the review of first annual report submitted by Kuwait National Human Rights Committee in Cairo on Monday, Jamali expressed the Arab Network’s keenness to extend bridges of cooperation with all the actors in the Arab region, especially the Human Rights Committees (the Charter Committee) of the League of Arab States.
He referred to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) among the Charter Committees and Arab Network aimed to provide mutual support in all areas of human rights, including the exchange of experiences and best practices, and raising the capabilities of national human rights institutions.
He said that experience has proven that the presence of regional human rights mechanisms has an added value to the international human rights mechanisms, stressing that the mechanisms provide a broader horizon for the promotion and protection of human rights in the Arab region.
The Qatar-based Arab Network executive director said that the presence of representatives of government institutions of Arab League member states, representatives of national human rights institutions, especially the National Office for Human Rights in Kuwait, as well as representatives of civil society reflects the interest of stakeholders and their seriousness in cooperating with the Arab Charter to promote and protect rights and preserve human dignity.
Emphasising the continuation of the Arab Network cooperation with the League of Arab States, especially with the Charter Committee, the Permanent Arab Committee for Human Rights and the Human Rights Department of the Arab League, Jamali said, “We will work to complete our commitment in building and raising capacities and enabling institutions to cooperate with the Charter mechanism, submit reports to it, attend its sessions and follow up on its recommendations.”
“We are certain of the continuation of cooperation between the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions and the Arab Human Rights Committee until the desired results are achieved,” he assured to the participants.
