257 new buildings completed in Jan, permits for 385 more issued

Activity in Qatar’s key villa construction continued to remain strong in January. Almost 73 percent of the permits issued in January for new residential buildings are for villa construction, suggesting a solid construction growth outlook in the residential building sector.
According to the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA), municipalities in Qatar issued 759 building permits in January. Nearly 51 percent (385) of them are for new buildings, including both residential and non-residential structures. Almost 46 percent (346) of them are for extensions and the remaining 4 percent (28 permits) are for fencing purposes.
Of the residential permits, those for “dwellings of housing loans permits” accounted for 16 percent (44 permits) and apartments accounted for 9 percent (25 permits). As many as 202 permits (69 percent) were issued for villa construction.
The PSA report also shows pronounced activity in the construction of commercial buildings. Of the permits issued for building non-residential structures in January, 64 percent (69 permits) were for commercial buildings. It is followed by permits for state and industrial buildings such as workshops and factories with 15 percent (16 permits). Other non-residential building permits accounted for 13 percent (14 permits) of the total.
In January, Al Rayyan municipality issued the highest number of building permits — 196 permits or 26 percent of the total. It is followed by Al Wakra with 152 permits or 20 percent, Al Da’ayen with 150 permits or 20 percent, Doha with 137 permits or 18 percent, Umm Slal with 46 permits or 6 percent, Al Khor with 44 permits or 6 percent, Al Shahaniya with 21 permits or 3 percent and Al Shammal with 13 permits or 2
percent.
The total number of building permits issued in January saw a 13 percent decrease from that in December 2021.
January also saw the execution of 322 building permits — 257 new buildings and 65 additions. Of the new buildings, 122 are for residential units and 59 non-residential facilities.
By analyzing new residential buildings permits data, PSA finds that villas’ top the list, accounting for 61 percent (122 permits) of all new residential buildings permits, followed by dwellings of housing loans permits by 30 percent (59 permits) and apartments buildings by 9 percent (17 permits).
On the other hand, commercial buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings permits with 64 percent (37 permits), followed by industrial buildings with 17 percent (10 permits) , then others of non-residential buildings with 10 percent (6 certificates).
The total number of building completion certificates issued in January saw an 8-percent increase from that in December.
